Update triggers
An update involves fetching the latest data for your visualization from the data source and inserting it into the destination file. It is usually the most important part of the product for our customers.
When you have a destination that contains one or multiple visualizations from a data source, you can start updating this destination whenever you like in the future.
Users can perform updates either at the destination level or more granularly at the slide level or visualization level. Three types of updates are possible within Rollstack:
- Destination Update: Updates all visualizations within the entire destination.
- Slide Update: Updates all visualizations on a specific slide.
- Visualization Update: Updates a single, specific visualization or multiple ones.
You can update your destinations in two ways:
- Manual updates
- Scheduled updates
All visualizations are run in parallel and our update engine is optimized to minimize our calls to your data source.
In certain instances, if your data source cannot handle too many parallel calls, we can reduce the workload to improve the performance of the updates.
You can manually update a destination by locating it in the destinations page, then clicking Update if you want to update the whole destination. As stated in the previous section, you can also perform updates at the slide level, or at the visualization level.
During these manual updates, you will see the status of each visualization in the notification bar at the top of the page.
You can also set up your destinations to update on a schedule. Please refer to the scheduling settings available on the destination page.
